Ian Sefchick

★ Grammy Nominated

Ian started his music career fronting Creeper Lagoon, signed to DreamWorks Records, working with producers like Jerry Harrison, Dave Fridmann, and Mark Endert. A self-taught amp builder and electronics enthusiast, he studied engineering at Cincinnati Technical College before joining Capitol Studios in Hollywood in 2009 as a studio technician. There he restored a Neumann VMS66 lathe and launched his mastering career — cutting vinyl, building custom gear, and eventually founding his boutique electronics company Magic Death Eye. Over the years at Capitol he mastered across a wide range of genres, developing a reputation for bringing out the best in both analog and digital recordings. After Capitol closed in 2020, he co-founded Dark Sky Mastering with Margaret Luthar, bringing his analog expertise and obsessive attention to detail to a wider range of artists and genres. He's been nominated for a Grammy for mastering Greg Allman's "Southern Blood" and Black Pumas' "Live at Capitol."
